Catch Up with Tara Mercado, Our VP of Client Engagement

We're excited for you to catch up with Tara, our newly promoted VP of Client Engagement. She helps keep our clients happy and the work flowing here at Sassafras. We love the sense of positivity and adventure in Tara's answers!

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Stay positive and never give up

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I’d love to learn how to draw and paint. This is not my strong suit for me but I think it’d be amazing to be able to create art.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

I would take an extended trip to travel the world with my partner. It’s a big bucket list adventure for me but I’d spare no expense and go on the trip of a lifetime.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

When I have short bursts of free time, I tend to get sucked into a social media platform like Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn. All 3 of these bring me down a variety of rabbit holes – some good, some not so good…

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

This one was a tough one for me, at this moment I think I’ll say Mulan. I recently watched this movie and I admire her dedication to family and her fierce determination to push her limits without hesitation.

What is something you learned in the last week?

My man and I took a Krag Maga class last week. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but now I know what it’s all about and I learned a few good self-defense tips that hopefully will never get used.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?

Running! I absolutely love to run. It is a great workout, no two runs are the same, every day is a new challenge and there is always room to improve. It’s a great way to work through situations while enjoying the fresh air.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

Vacuuming – thanks to the invention of the iRobot I no longer need to deal with this 😊

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Martha Stewart – I absolutely love Martha Stewart, I love her recipes and I envy her vast knowledge of so many things. I’m in awe of how she has completely reinvented herself multiple times, her amazing home and what a strong independent woman she is. She knows exactly who she is and is proud of it.

What three traits define you?

Independent, Resourceful, Dedicated

Ten years ago, who did you think you would be now?

Not exactly who I am now. In my career, I feel like I’m where I was hoping I’d be. Personally, I envisioned myself as a mother of four living in the Northeast balancing life perfectly… NOT SO. I’m actually a mother of an 8-year-old daughter and 19-year-old step-son living in the South and trying my best to balance what I can.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Wow, this one is hard! I truly love my career and always have… if I was doing something else I guess I’d like to own my own bakery/corner market store that sold my own baked goods and local goodies. It’d be fun to get to know all the people in the community. It’d also be a great way for me to be able to bake often without having to eat them all.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Things work out just the way they are supposed to, enjoy every day and don’t settle – you're worth it.

What is your favorite thing about working at Sassafras?

There are so many things. I’ve worked for large agencies owned by big conglomerates and I absolutely love working for a small agency. We are small but mighty – I love that working in a smaller agency allows for everyone to have a voice and to truly make a change. The owners are visionaries that are open to change and the team is truly one of a kind. None of us have a big Ego… we just work together to produce the best work possible. It’s a blast!
